Denver -- If you have clothes that are in great shape and that you want to get rid of, this week’s 7Everyday Heroes have a solution. They use hand-me-downs to raise the spirits of those in need.Susan and Fred Baker are the owners of Heritage Cleaners, and started the “Hand-Me-Up Program” with the Gathering Place in 2004. Customers donating clothes is a common scene at “Heritage Cleaners” locations across the front range. Customers drop off their gently used clothing at any location; they are then laundered, pressed and delivered to the Gathering Place in downtown Denver. The Gathering Place is a daytime shelter for women and kids experiencing homelessness and poverty. The women use the clothes to help start anew.
Susan and Fred have averaged 1500 to 2000 garments every two weeks for the last four years.
