DENVER -- This week’s 7Everyday Hero looks like he walked right out of a singing cowboy movie – and that’s exactly how he likes it. Ron Ball’s aim is to keep the old west alive.Ron wants the image of a singing cowboy to stay alive. That’s his mission, and he goes wherever it takes him. He sings songs of singing cowboys and heroes in white hats – the kind that once filled the screens of movie houses and black and white televisions.Ron started singing at age ten, and began wrangling horses soon after. Before he donned the spurs and boots and fancy western shirts, Ron wore a different uniform. He was a Los Angeles police officer in the 60’s and 70’s. He still feels the weight of that badge. He says it sounds corny to say sometimes, but he believes in God honor and country – and he always has.
And when Ron isn’t singing cowboy songs, he’s drawing and painting images of the old West. He shares his work with students, and some of his art hangs in western museums. So Ron is honoring others and the old west – just like his heroes.
