Jayson Luber
Helicopter Reporter, Traffic Anchor
Jayson Luber was born in the Detroit, Michigan suburb of Royal Oak and grew up in Bloomfield Hills. He finished high school in Sandy Springs, Georgia outside Atlanta.He attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA (near Savannah) and graduated with a BS in Mass Communications, with an emphasis in radio broadcasting. Jayson graduated with the honor of a "Silver Chalice Award," given to the top Mass Communications graduate.While at GSU, Jayson was the General Manager for the college radio station WVGS. He also worked at the local radio stations WWNS and WMCD, as News Anchor and DJ.
Jayson moved to Denver in the summer of 1993 and took a job with KYBG sports talk radio, working as a producer and engineer. In January 1996, he was hired as a DJ at KOSI Radio. Four months later, he switched to 850-KOA Radio as weekend anchor and producer.Jayson took on the roll of backup helicopter news/traffic reporter in January of 1998 and 6 months later was promoted to reporter for Colorado's Morning News. Shortly after, he became the Executive Producer. In May of 2001, Jayson was promoted to full time helicopter news/traffic reporter and also served as fill-in reporter for KUSA-TV, 9News, the NBC-TV affiliate.Jayson jumped into the world of TV in May 2006 by accepting his current position as the Helicopter Reporter and Traffic Anchor for KMGH-TV, Denver's 7NEWS, the ABC-TV affiliate.He is the winner of multiple Colorado Broadcasting Association and Associated Press awards for news reporting and producing. Jayson is also team winner of a national Edward R Murrow award for coverage of the Hayman Wildfires, June 2002. He is team winner of a regional Murrow award for Granby Bulldozer Rampage, June 2004. And in 2008, Jayson was named "Best TV Eye in the Sky" by Westword.Jayson testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science Subcommittee on Environment, Technology and Standards regarding transportation issues in Denver, June 2004. Jayson was also one of the first Denver reporters trained as a "Red Card" Wildland Firefighter.He is married to Gina Selby, KWGN-TV, Channel 2 morning news Segment Producer. They celebrated the birth of their first child, Jaylyn September 18th, 2008.When Jayson is not flying he enjoys traveling, hiking, recreational sports and playing guitar. He is a contributor to several charities including the Boys and Girls Club, Denver Dumb Friends League, Colorado Public Broadcasting, Columbine Never Forgotten Fund, Colorado Christian Services and others.A true fan of the Colorado mountains, Jayson has climbed 12 of the 54 "14ers", including Mount Elbert; the highest in the state and the second highest in the lower 48 United States at 14,440 feet.His most memorable experience is celebrating the new Millennium in Times Square, New York City with his wife and one million other close friends.
